    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  recognizing Arthur Victor Smith, Jr., for earning the title of
    1-4  Jailer of the Year for the Walker County Sheriff's Department; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Art Smith began his successful career in law
    1-6  enforcement in 1946 as a fingerprint technician for the Sacramento
    1-7  Police Department in California; he then spent 19 years with the
    1-8  California Highway Patrol; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A respected leader in his department, Mr. Smith is
   1-10  dedicated to his work as a guardian over Walker County prisoners;
   1-11  he has worked in the sheriff's department for 12 years and plans
   1-12  to retire in March; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Well experienced and knowledgeable, Art Smith was
   1-14  chosen to serve as the trainer for many of the officers in the jail
   1-15  division; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Greatly admired by his colleagues for his hard work
   1-17  and positive attitude, Mr. Smith has been committed to making the
   1-18  streets of Walker County a safer place in which to live, work, and
   1-19  raise a family; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Throughout his career, Art Smith has displayed
   1-21  superior judgment in dealing with the unique challenges of law
   1-22  enforcement duty, and he has contributed greatly to the well-being
   1-23  of the people of Walker County; now, therefore, be it
    2-1        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-2  74th Legislature, hereby commend Arthur Victor Smith, Jr., for his
    2-3  valor and his dedication to the field of law enforcement and extend
    2-4  congratulations to him for earning the title of Jailer of the Year;
    2-5  and, be it further
    2-6        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-7  Mr. Smith as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
