No. 516 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing Opal Hicks of Chilton, Texas, on the joyous occasion 1-4 of her 85th birthday, on January 8, 1995; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hicks was honored with a party given by her 1-6 children, Mary Anne Cohn, Bob Hicks, and Darrell Gene Hicks, at 1-7 the Volunteer Fire Department building on January 14, 1995; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Mrs. Hicks has been privileged to witness events 1-9 most of us only read about in history books; and 1-10 WHEREAS, During her lifetime, she has witnessed two world 1-11 wars, the invention of television, and the landing of astronauts 1-12 on the moon; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Today, she enjoys reminiscing and takes pleasure in 1-14 the companionship of her 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren; 1-15 and 1-16 WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of her community, 1-17 Opal Hicks is noted for her courage, her compassion for others, 1-18 and her enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, 1-19 therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-21 74th Legislature, hereby join the family and friends of Opal Hicks 1-22 in extending best wishes to her and congratulations on the grand 1-23 occasion of her 85th birthday; and, be it further 2-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-2 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-3 ______________________________________ 2-4 President of the Senate 2-5 I hereby certify that the above 2-6 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-7 on March 22, 1995. 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 Secretary of the Senate 2-10 ______________________________________ 2-11 Member, Texas Senate
