    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  recognizing the Texas Main Street Program of the Texas Historical
    1-4  Commission for its work on the downtown revitalization of cities
    1-5  and towns across the state; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The Texas Historical Commission developed the Texas
    1-7  Main Street Program to assist cities in Texas in the revitalization
    1-8  and economic development of their central business districts; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The program emphasizes preservation and
   1-10  rehabilitation of the architecturally significant structures
   1-11  and the use of progressive marketing and management techniques;
   1-12  restoring historic commercial buildings provides encouragement to
   1-13  area merchants and building owners to reinvest in the downtown
   1-14  area; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, Up to five cities are selected annually for the
   1-16  Texas Main Street Program, and the City of Alpine was among those
   1-17  selected for 1995; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, As one of the selected cities, Alpine will receive
   1-19  professional assistance and supervision in the restoration, design,
   1-20  and marketing of its downtown section; Alpine will receive help in
   1-21  starting the program and in developing the local initiative and
   1-22  expertise to successfully complete the project; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The Texas Main Street Program is vital to the
    2-1  preservation of the beauty and history of the cities of Texas, and
    2-2  the Texas Historical Commission deserves praise for its creation;
    2-3  now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-5  74th Legislature, hereby commend the Texas Main Street Program
    2-6  of the Texas Historical Commission for its invaluable work on
    2-7  behalf of the cities of Texas; and, be it further
    2-8        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
    2-9  the Texas Historical Commission as a memento from the Texas Senate.
