No. 539 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Hortencia Cisneros of Corpus Christi was crowned 1-3 Ms. Texas Senior America 1995 on February 4 in Dallas at the eighth 1-4 annual pageant to honor outstanding Texas women; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Selected from among 20 beautiful ladies who vied for 1-6 the crown, Mrs. Cisneros became the first Hispanic and the first 1-7 resident of Corpus Christi to win the coveted title; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Wearing a turquoise dress, ankle boots, and hot pink 1-9 ribbons in her silver hair, the spirited winner danced to mariachi 1-10 music in the senior beauty contest; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Addressing the judges, Mrs. Cisneros eloquently 1-12 stated that her philosophy of life was rooted in her belief that 1-13 those acts with the most enduring value brighten the spirit, 1-14 enlighten the mind, and encourage the heart of another; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Leader of a group of dancers called Las Abuelitas, 1-16 the talented individual entertains residents at area nursing homes 1-17 with the ballet folklorico; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Sponsored by Memorial Funeral Home, Mrs. Cisneros 1-19 recently retired from her position there as a secretary after 15 1-20 years of outstanding employment; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Mother of six and grandmother of 10, Mrs. Cisneros 1-22 will contend for the national contest in Biloxi, Mississippi, on 1-23 June 3, 1995; the 42 state winners who are competing will be judged 2-1 on an evening gown and talent contest and interviews with judges; 2-2 and 2-3 WHEREAS, Hortencia's energy, poise, talent, and charm have 2-4 brought her much-deserved recognition, and she is a splendid 2-5 representative for women of the "age of elegance"; now, therefore, 2-6 be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 74th Legislature, hereby extend heartfelt congratulations to 2-9 Hortencia Cisneros for becoming the 1995 Ms. Texas Senior America 2-10 and extend best wishes to her for continued success in the national 2-11 competition; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-13 as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-14 Truan 2-15 Armbrister Henderson Ratliff 2-16 Barrientos Leedom Rosson 2-17 Bivins Lucio Shapiro 2-18 Brown Luna Sibley 2-19 Cain Madla Sims 2-20 Ellis Moncrief Turner 2-21 Gallegos Montford Wentworth 2-22 Galloway Nelson West 2-23 Harris Nixon Whitmire 2-24 Haywood Patterson Zaffirini 2-25 Bullock, President of the Senate 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 President of the Senate 3-3 I hereby certify that the above 3-4 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-5 on March 23, 1995. 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 Secretary of the Senate 3-8 ______________________________________ 3-9 Dean of the Senate
