No. 551 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Fred Ernest Gray 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-6 of Pasadena in mourning the loss of prominent civic and political 1-7 leader Fred Ernest Gray who died March 22, 1995, at the age of 83; 1-8 and 1-9 WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born on September 11, 1911, 1-10 in Katy; he married Isabel Miller of Weimar, Texas, on 1-11 February 23, 1939; together they made a home and raised a family; 1-12 and 1-13 WHEREAS, Mr. Gray was an exemplary gentleman and was highly 1-14 respected for his dedication to his company; he worked for the 1-15 Missouri Pacific Railroad for 18 years as Chief Clerk, as District 1-16 Solicitor in North Carolina, and as an escort for troops and 1-17 prisoners of war during World War II; and 1-18 WHEREAS, After he left the Missouri Pacific Railroad, he 1-19 joined Diamond Shamrock in Houston and was the Southeast Regional 1-20 Personnel Director for 28 years; and 1-21 WHEREAS, After Mr. Gray retired from Diamond Shamrock, this 1-22 highly esteemed businessman opened Gray and Gray Realty and was 1-23 still working there at the time of his death; and 2-1 WHEREAS, A natural community leader, Mr. Gray was a member 2-2 of the Pasadena Rotary Club and possessed a perfect attendance 2-3 record for 41 years; he was President of the Pasadena Chamber of 2-4 Commerce, a Life Member of the Texas Manufacturers Association, 2-5 and a Century Member of the Boy Scouts of America; and 2-6 WHEREAS, A man whose family roots ran deep, he was a member 2-7 of the Sons of the American Revolution; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Often remembered as "Mr. Republican" of Pasadena, 2-9 Mr. Gray could recall being one of only five professed Republicans 2-10 in the community and had worked on every presidential, gubernatorial, 2-11 and senate race since 1948; he was equally devoted to helping out 2-12 in any local races for sheriff through mayor; a member of the State 2-13 Republican Executive Committee for 16 years, Mr. Gray was highly 2-14 regarded for his perceptive insights into Texas politics; and 2-15 WHEREAS, This meritorious Texan's varied and notable 2-16 achievements greatly contributed to the growth and progress of 2-17 his city, county, and state, and he will be keenly missed; now, 2-18 therefore, be it 2-19 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-20 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members 2-21 of his family: his wife, Isabel Gray; his son, Darrell Kim Gray; 2-22 his daughter, Annette Kallnoski; and his five grandchildren; and, 2-23 be it further 2-24 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-25 his family as an expression of the deepest sympathy from the 3-1 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do 3-2 so in memory of Fred Ernest Gray. 3-3 ______________________________________ 3-4 President of the Senate 3-5 I hereby certify that the above 3-6 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-7 on March 27, 1995, by a rising vote. 3-8 ______________________________________ 3-9 Secretary of the Senate 3-10 ______________________________________ 3-11 Member, Texas Senate
