    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Marcet Hines King
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of Austin in mourning the loss of Marcet Hines King who died
    1-7  March 14, 1995, at the age of 72; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born in Chicago, Marcet Hines graduated from Fisk
    1-9  University in Nashville and married Dr. John Q. Taylor King, Sr.,
   1-10  to whom she was happily wed for nearly 54 years; the couple moved
   1-11  to Austin in 1946; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Marcet King earned a master's degree in music from
   1-13  Chicago Musical College in 1950 and was a professor of music at
   1-14  Huston-Tillotson College until 1965 when her husband was elected
   1-15  president of the college; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, She was dedicated to her work as a homemaker and
   1-17  musician and was a funeral director and stockholder at King-Tears
   1-18  Mortuary, Incorporated; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished lady, Marcet King was
   1-20  respected for her remarkable talent and her many accomplishments;
   1-21  and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A well-known community leader, she served on the
   1-23  boards of the Austin Young Women's Christian Association, Child
    2-1  and Family Service, and Planned Parenthood; she was a life member
    2-2  of the National Urban League and the National Association for the
    2-3  Advancement of Colored People; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, dignity, strength, and
    2-5  generosity, she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her
    2-6  wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those
    2-7  who knew her; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mrs. King was a member of
    2-9  Wesley United Methodist Church where she served as a volunteer
   2-10  organist; and
   2-11        WHEREAS, Marcet King lived her life to the fullest and was
   2-12  a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves behind
   2-13  memories that will be treasured forever by her family and many
   2-14  friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-16  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to her
   2-17  bereaved family:  her husband, Dr. John Q. Taylor King, Sr.;
   2-18  her children, Dr. John Q. Taylor King, Jr., Dr. Clinton A. King,
   2-19  Marjon King Christopher, and Stuart Hines King; and her nine
   2-20  grandchildren and great-grandson; and, be it further
   2-21        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-22  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
   2-23  from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
   2-24  day, it do so in memory of Marcet Hines King.
