No. 554 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Harriet Olsen Nagel 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-6 of Austin in mourning the untimely loss of Harriet Olsen Nagel 1-7 who died March 15, 1995, at the age of 56; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born May 6, 1938, in Austin, Harriet Olsen graduated 1-9 from The University of Texas in 1960 with a degree in journalism; 1-10 she married LeRoy F. "Ted" Nagel and then joined Trunkline Gas 1-11 Company in Houston where she worked as a magazine editor; and 1-12 WHEREAS, After returning to Austin in 1967, Harriet Nagel 1-13 began her remarkable career as a volunteer for Laguna Gloria Art 1-14 Museum and for a number of other organizations; and 1-15 WHEREAS, She was dedicated to her work for Laguna Gloria Art 1-16 Museum and served on its Board of Trustees for 18 years; for her 1-17 exceptional work, she was honored with the Clara Driscoll Award 1-18 in 1988; she served as Fiesta Chairman in 1975 and dedicated 1-19 countless hours to the Women's Art Guild over a period of 28 years; 1-20 the main gallery in the Austin Museum of Art at Laguna Gloria will 1-21 be dedicated in her honor; and 1-22 WHEREAS, A woman of many talents and interests, she produced 1-23 newsletters for her children's school organizations and chaired 2-1 numerous fundraisers; she was a member of the Settlement Club and 2-2 was a volunteer for the Colony Creek Cottage; she was active with 2-3 the Scholarship and Parade Committees for the Austin-Travis County 2-4 Livestock Show; and 2-5 WHEREAS, She gave generously of her time to the Alpha Gamma 2-6 Delta Sorority, serving several times as Alumnae President and 2-7 working for eight years as President of the House Association; 2-8 she represented the sorority with the Austin Alumnae Panhellenic 2-9 from 1976 to 1992 and received the Arc with Diamonds and Pearls, 2-10 one of the highest service awards given to alumnae; and 2-11 WHEREAS, An exemplary lady and outstanding community leader, 2-12 Harriet Nagel touched the lives of many and was respected for 2-13 her exceptional accomplishments; and 2-14 WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, uncommon energy, compassion, 2-15 and generosity, she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her 2-16 wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those 2-17 who knew her; and 2-18 WHEREAS, Harriet Nagel lived her life to the fullest and was 2-19 a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who leaves behind memories 2-20 that will be treasured forever by her family and many friends; 2-21 now, therefore, be it 2-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-23 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved 2-24 family of Harriet Olsen Nagel: her husband, LeRoy F. "Ted" Nagel; 2-25 her son, L. Fred Nagel III; her daughters and sons-in-law, Jennifer 3-1 and Robert Berry, Elizabeth and K. D. Schwartz, and Laurie Nagel; 3-2 her parents, Homer and Florence Olsen; her sister, Marilyn O.
