No. 556 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to send 1-3 greetings to the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Christ in 1-4 Houston, Texas, on the grand occasion of its 129th anniversary; and 1-5 WHEREAS, On Sunday, March 19, 1995, the congregation gathered 1-6 to salute the men and women who have endeavored through the years 1-7 to deliver the highest quality of religious growth to the inhabitants 1-8 of the Houston community; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The guest minister who was present to help celebrate 1-10 129 years of worship, praise, and proclamation was the distinguished 1-11 Reverend Clifford McClain, Ph.D., of Little Union Baptist Church in 1-12 Shreveport, Louisiana, who was formerly the pastor of Shiloh Baptist 1-13 Church in Houston, Texas; and 1-14 WHEREAS, The theme for the anniversary celebration was 1-15 "Reaching, Reclaiming, Reuniting People for the Lord"; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Houston's oldest black Baptist church, Antioch 1-17 Missionary Baptist Church was organized in 1866, one year after 1-18 blacks had been given their freedom on June 19, 1865; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The rich historical heritage of Antioch Missionary 1-20 Baptist Church reflects the dedication by its members of their 1-21 talents, skills, vision, wisdom, and selfless service to others; 1-22 and 1-23 WHEREAS, Through its membership, it has provided Houston and 2-1 the United States with educational leadership, economic direction, 2-2 political awareness, and an unyielding torch of spiritual sensitivity 2-3 and positive light; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Antioch Missionary Baptist Church of Christ has been 2-5 a source of comfort and hope in times of great distress and a place 2-6 of fellowship and love for those who come to worship; now, therefore, 2-7 be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 74th Legislature, hereby congratulate the congregation and pastor 2-10 of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church on this important milestone 2-11 in the life of the church; and, be it further 2-12 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-13 church as an expression of the highest esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-14 ______________________________________ 2-15 President of the Senate 2-16 I hereby certify that the above 2-17 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-18 on March 28, 1995. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 Secretary of the Senate 2-21 ______________________________________ 2-22 Member, Texas Senate
