    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize Velma McKenzie for her superb service to the citizens
    1-4  of Texas while working in the office of Senator Rodney Ellis; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, This talented young woman received her bachelor
    1-6  of arts degree in sociology from the University of Missouri in
    1-7  1980; since her graduation from the university, she has many
    1-8  accomplishments to her credit; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, During her five-year tenure with Jacobs Engineering,
   1-10  Velma managed daily operation of an engineering field office and
   1-11  supervised clerical and staff project assignments; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, While she was Director and Consultant with Artistic
   1-13  Reflections, she managed the art gallery, exhibited and sold works
   1-14  of national and local artists, designed a portable art gallery and
   1-15  training workshops, and wrote an extensive operations manual for
   1-16  direct sales persons; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Possessed with a rare ability to get things done,
   1-18  Velma has extensive experience with producing and directing video
   1-19  productions, has produced and directed news shows for public access
   1-20  television, and has written and edited scripts and directed location
   1-21  shoots for the 1990 Economic Summit; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Velma has been a vital and active member of
   1-23  Senator Rodney Ellis's staff, and her duties in that capacity
    2-1  were many and varied; she represented the senator at government,
    2-2  community, civic, and business events; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, She prepared drafts, composed correspondence for
    2-4  the senator to sign, researched district and legislative issues,
    2-5  and handled constituent casework most effectively; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Noted for her honesty and integrity, Ms. McKenzie
    2-7  has earned the respect and friendship of her colleagues; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Characteristics of her tenure are ability,
    2-9  responsiveness, and commitment; she will be greatly missed
   2-10  by all who know her; now, therefore, be it
   2-11        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-12  74th Legislature, hereby commend the career of service of
   2-13  Velma McKenzie and wish her the best of luck in her future
   2-14  endeavors; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  her as an expression of the highest esteem of the Texas Senate.
