    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  joining the citizens of the Texas Panhandle in proclaiming Tuesday,
    1-4  March 28, 1995, as Panhandle Day at the Capitol; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, A spectacular region in Texas that encompasses 26
    1-6  counties, the Panhandle is rich in history and scenic plains and is
    1-7  home to a host of cities offering a wide array of opportunities; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The area is a combination of traditional ranch
    1-9  lands unchanged for centuries, High Plains agriculture, and large
   1-10  stretches of oil and gas reserves; wheat and cotton are major crops
   1-11  and feedlot cattle, meat packing, leather tanning, and fabric
   1-12  milling are primary industries; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Situated on the campus of West Texas State University,
   1-14  the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum provides an intriguing
   1-15  overview of life in the Old West and the Panhandle past; the museum
   1-16  features an extensive gun collection, historic brands, artifacts
   1-17  from Indian cultures, prehistoric fossils, and wildlife exhibits;
   1-18  and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Located in the heart of the Panhandle, southeast of
   1-20  Amarillo, is the state's famous Palo Duro Canyon State Park, a
   1-21  16,400-acre site stretching through Armstrong and Randall counties;
   1-22  the arresting scenic canyon exposes rocks spanning about 200 million
   1-23  years of geological time; the park is the location of the annual
    2-1  summer production of the acclaimed drama "Texas" which is performed
    2-2  in a natural amphitheater; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, With more than 400,000 residents, the Panhandle
    2-4  offers the opportunities and vitality generated by modern cities
    2-5  and industry, yet its natural beauty and spectacular scenery remain
    2-6  unchanged; this unique area of Texas is treasured by citizens across
    2-7  the state and is a colorful region in which to live or visit; now,
    2-8  therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  74th Legislature, hereby commend the residents of the Panhandle
   2-11  for their many contributions to our state and extend to them best
   2-12  wishes for a joyous and celebratory Panhandle Day; and, be it
   2-13  further
   2-14        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-15  Panhandle of Texas as an expression of high regard from the
   2-16  Texas Senate.
