    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                            Nicholas Green
    1-5        WHEREAS, Local, state, and international dignitaries are
    1-6  gathering in Fort Worth, Texas, to honor the memory of
    1-7  Nicholas Green, and the Texas Senate wishes to honor his memory
    1-8  also; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, A dinner is being given on April 19, 1995, to
   1-10  celebrate his life; the event is sponsored by LifeGift Organ
   1-11  Donation Center; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, When Maggie and Reg Green's seven-year-old son
   1-13  died in Italy in the fall of 1994, the family made the decision
   1-14  to donate his organs, thus giving seven Italians the gift of life;
   1-15  and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Green felt that it was very important
   1-17  to give a future to someone who would lose theirs if they did not
   1-18  receive a transplant; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Their decision elevated them to the level
   1-20  of national heroes in Italy; the organ donation rate after
   1-21  Mr. and Mrs. Green's gift increased in Italy by 400 percent
   1-22  and has been called "The Nicholas Effect"; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, Nicholas Green has had hospitals, parks, and
    2-1  scholarships named after him; his parents have received
    2-2  prestigious international humanitarian awards; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, Reg and Maggie Green have made increased public
    2-4  awareness a personal mission in memory of their son; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, They hope his legacy will inspire an increased
    2-6  rate of organ donation in the United States as it has in Italy
    2-7  and throughout the world; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  74th Legislature, hereby honor the gift of life of Nicholas Green
   2-10  and commend the mission of his parents; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  them as an expression of the highest esteem of the Texas Senate.
