No. 570 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased and 1-3 proud to recognize Julia Mosele, Inneke Vargas, Melanie Behrman, 1-4 Tammy Bledsoe, Ericka Black, Patricia Castillo-Soto, Ashley Duran, 1-5 Stephanie Diggs, Kenyatta Gray, Amy Hickey, Jessika Izaguirre, 1-6 Lasharri Kennard, Alaina Lee, Georgina Longoria, Elisabeth Odom, 1-7 Laniece Parker, Santiago Romero, Jennifer Talbot, Marcus Brooks, 1-8 Courtney Tankersley, Patricia Villarreal, Darnell Bradford, 1-9 Karlisha Gray, Mercedes Hill, Terra Lewis, Jill Marks, Freddie Huff, 1-10 Charles Frazier, Matthew Marcus, Damien Terry, Jeremiah Bodner, 1-11 Larry Broussard, Ron Even, Raul Escalante, Shaun Greer, Jason Lamb, 1-12 Shane Johnson, Michael Whaley, Josh Yalenezian, Andrew Zamorategui, 1-13 Dustin Dromgoole, Aarica McIntyre, Mauricio Medina, Thomas Torres, 1-14 Raymond Wright, Natoya Patterson, Brittany Taylor, William Scott, 1-15 Matthew Walton, Brandon Ball, Gregory Brockett, Jaclyn Castano, 1-16 Gregory Levy, Matthew Mullenweg, Jonathan Phoenix, Tiffany Smith, 1-17 Michael Vaysman, Andrew Wang, Efrain Anaya, Zachariah Haverkamp, 1-18 Thomas Gannon, Hillis Roberson, Mark Chilivetis, Mike Gonzales, 1-19 Raquel Brown, Judith Sun, Lakeisha Williams, Matthew Pirsamadi, 1-20 Ronald Booker, Alexis Coleman, Eric Medina, Patrick Udoewa, and 1-21 Ryan Ward from Parker Elementary Music Academy's advanced band 1-22 who will play in the Rotunda of the State Capitol at noon on 1-23 April 4, 1995; and 2-1 WHEREAS, Parker Elementary School is a Houston Independent 2-2 School District magnet school that specializes in music instruction; 2-3 over 500 students in kindergarten through fifth grade participate 2-4 in a comprehensive music program; and 2-5 WHEREAS, The magnet program began in 1975 and is considered 2-6 quite successful; the Parker Elementary School music program 2-7 involves offering each student instruction in Suzuki strings, choral 2-8 music, piano, and band; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Each student receives a school instrument, a private 2-10 music lesson once a week, and group instruction once a day after 2-11 school; the school has 150 students from the neighborhood and 350 2-12 transfer students from throughout the school district; and 2-13 WHEREAS, The curriculum receives strong support from the 2-14 school administration and the school district; parents also work 2-15 vigorously to supplement the operating budget for various musical 2-16 groups; and 2-17 WHEREAS, The school band program has over 150 students 2-18 participating from the second grade through the fifth grade; the 2-19 director of the beginner band is Lloyd Hughes and the director of 2-20 the advanced band is Anthony Maxie; and 2-21 WHEREAS, The success of the program has been so great that 2-22 42 of the advanced band students were selected for the Houston 2-23 Independent School District All-City Band; these achievements are 2-24 certainly worthy of legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 2-25 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 3-1 74th Legislature, hereby commend Parker Elementary Music Academy 3-2 on the superb education that it provides for its students and 3-3 welcome the students to the State Capitol; and, be it further 3-4 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 3-5 school as an expression of the highest regard of the Texas Senate. 3-6 ______________________________________ 3-7 President of the Senate 3-8 I hereby certify that the above 3-9 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-10 on April 4, 1995. 3-11 ______________________________________ 3-12 Secretary of the Senate 3-13 ______________________________________ 3-14 Member, Texas Senate
