    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Kevin Koch was recently recognized by USA Today
    1-3  for his notable efforts to make the world a better place, and the
    1-4  Texas Senate is pleased to commend him for his exceptional work;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, A senior environmental design major at
    1-7  Texas A&M University, Kevin was one of 60 students named to
    1-8  three USA Today 1995 All-USA College Academic Teams; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The prestigious award honors students who combine
   1-10  academic brilliance with energetic leadership and a desire to use
   1-11  their talents to help others; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, Chosen from a field of 1,398 students who were
   1-13  nominated by their universities, Kevin received the honor for
   1-14  designing a medical clinic off the coast of Belize; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, The idea for his design came about while Kevin was
   1-16  on a study trip to Guatemala in the summer of 1993; one of his
   1-17  fellow students was bitten by a dog and when the doctors at the
   1-18  local clinic learned the students were studying architecture, the
   1-19  doctors suggested they design a clinic; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, After Kevin returned to A&M and became involved in
   1-21  a research program project, he remembered the need for a clinic in
   1-22  Belize and returned for two weeks to measure the land and existing
   1-23  buildings; his research included talking to local doctors,
    2-1  government officials, and citizens to obtain basic information
    2-2  about architecture, building practices, and health care practices
    2-3  and trends in the area; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, After graduation, Kevin Koch hopes to attend
    2-5  graduate school to study urban planning and eventually to teach
    2-6  or go into private architecture practice; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-8  74th Legislature, hereby extend congratulations to Kevin Koch for
    2-9  being named to the USA Today 1995 All-USA College Academic Team
   2-10  and extend best wishes to him for continued success in his future
   2-11  endeavors; and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-13  Kevin as an expression of the appreciation and high regard of the
   2-14  Texas Senate.
