    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                        Reverend Lawson C. Edge
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of Grapeland in mourning the loss of Reverend Lawson C. Edge who
    1-7  died January 28, 1995, at the age of 89; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born August 8, 1905, in
    1-9  Grapeland to Thomas Ed and Flora Elizabeth Garrett Edge; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, He lived in Houston for many years where he had
   1-11  a daily job as a carpenter, and he was a lifetime member of
   1-12  the carpenters' trade union; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Reverend Edge worked actively in the Mission
   1-14  Department of White Oak Baptist Church, witnessing and leading
   1-15  several thousands to Christ from the jails of Houston; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, While living in Houston, he pastored at Dailey and
   1-17  Ninevah; after his semi-retirement, he was pastoring at Oak Grove
   1-18  when he returned to Grapeland in 1968; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, Thereafter, he pastored at Weches, Pearson Chapel,
   1-20  and Shady Grove, and he also filled in at several other churches;
   1-21  and
   1-22        WHEREAS, This devout Christian was a member of the First
   1-23  Baptist Church of Grapeland; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Reverend Edge was a 67-year lifetime member of the
    2-2  Grapeland Masonic Lodge; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, He leaves behind a legacy of compassion and
    2-4  commitment that will remain cherished by those whose lives he
    2-5  touched; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity,
    2-7  he gave unselfishly of his time and talents to others; now,
    2-8  therefore, be it
    2-9        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-10  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-11  members of his family:  his wife, Shirley Edge; his daughters,
   2-12  Mary Lee Holomek, Betty Jo Cutler, and Glenda Joyce Satterwhite;
   2-13  and his nine grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and
   2-14  great-great-grandchild; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the
   2-17  Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
   2-18  do so in memory of Reverend Lawson C. Edge.
