    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  recognizing Sonya Marie Rodriguez on her recent selection for a
    1-4  four-year full scholarship to attend Saint Thomas University in
    1-5  Houston; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Sonya will graduate from Mount Carmel High School
    1-7  in Houston in May of 1995; she has been an honor roll student, was
    1-8  named Student of the Month, and was the runner-up in the Oratorical
    1-9  Speech Contest; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, At Mount Carmel High School, Sonya is a popular
   1-11  student and a respected leader who has been active in many facets
   1-12  of campus life; she has served on the Student Council as Sophomore
   1-13  Treasurer, Junior Class President, and Student Body President and
   1-14  has been a member and Treasurer of the National Honor Society; she
   1-15  has served as a member of Campus Ministry and Youth Conference and
   1-16  has been a cheerleader and captain of the softball team; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Her work and travel experience include serving
   1-18  for three years as a secretary at the high school and attending
   1-19  conferences such as the Close-up Organization in Washington, D.C.,
   1-20  and the Lorenzo De Zavala National Leadership Conference in
   1-21  Chicago, Illinois; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Talented and industrious, Sonya is a model for
   1-23  students of all ages in the State of Texas; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, An exemplary young woman with an engaging
    2-2  personality, Sonya Rodriguez strives for excellence in all of her
    2-3  endeavors, and she is a source of much pride to her family, her
    2-4  school, and her community; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  74th Legislature, hereby commend Sonya Rodriguez for her many
    2-7  accomplishments and extend congratulations to her on earning a
    2-8  scholarship from Saint Thomas University; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-10  her as an expression of congratulations from the Texas Senate.
