    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Thelma Throckmorton of Voss has been chosen as the
    1-3  1995 Rural Citizen of the Year for her exceptional contributions to
    1-4  the citizens of her community, and the Texas Senate is pleased to
    1-5  recognize her for receiving this significant honor; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, A native of Coleman County, Mrs. Throckmorton
    1-7  has been a resident of the county all her life; she attended the
    1-8  Starkweather Elementary School and graduated from Coleman High
    1-9  School and Howard Payne College; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, She married Otis Throckmorton and became a devoted
   1-11  wife and caring mother to their son, Richard, and their daughter,
   1-12  Caroline; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Thelma began her teaching career in a one-room
   1-14  schoolhouse and for the next 29 years she taught elementary school
   1-15  children in Coleman County; she has touched the lives of countless
   1-16  children, including her own whom she also taught at school and at
   1-17  home; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, An active member of Voss Baptist Church,
   1-19  Mrs. Throckmorton impressed upon her children the importance of
   1-20  regular church attendance; she and her husband have faithfully
   1-21  served the church for 37 years as secretary and treasurer; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, After her retirement from teaching, Mrs. Throckmorton
   1-23  became more deeply involved in community and county affairs; she
    2-1  began writing Voss community news items as a correspondent for the
    2-2  Chronicle and Democrat-Voice, and for the past 12 years, she has
    2-3  helped former residents keep up with friends and relatives; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, Her compassion for and interest in others is
    2-5  apparent in the hours she spends visiting residents at Holiday Hill
    2-6  and Coleman Care Center as well as friends who are shut-ins in their
    2-7  homes; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  74th Legislature, hereby commend Thelma Throckmorton for her
   2-10  exemplary life and extend best wishes to her in the years to come;
   2-11  and, be it further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-13  her as an expression of the appreciation and high regard of the
   2-14  Texas Senate.
