No. 623 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Virginia Paine Macdaniel Drysdale 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of Texas joins the citizens of San Antonio 1-6 in mourning the loss of Virginia Paine Macdaniel Drysdale who died 1-7 March 22, 1995, at the age of 86; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born December 12, 1908, in Abbington, Connecticut, 1-9 Virginia Paine was a member of a Connecticut family whose roots 1-10 in the Woodstock-Promfet area went back more than 300 years; and 1-11 WHEREAS, She graduated with honors from Brown University, 1-12 married Gibbs Macdaniel of San Antonio, and raised four children; 1-13 her husband died in 1965, and in 1975, she married John Drysdale, 1-14 a friend from her college days; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mrs. Drysdale was dedicated to her work in the 1-16 San Antonio community and was a founder of El Patronato, an 1-17 organization created to promote friendly relations between Anglo 1-18 and Hispanic communities and cultural and educational exchange 1-19 between San Antonio and Mexico; and 1-20 WHEREAS, An exemplary lady, Mrs. Drysdale was respected for 1-21 her many accomplishments and was a well-known civic leader; she 1-22 was a member of the Shakespeare Club, the Pan American Round 1-23 Table, and the board of the University of Mexico-Trinity University 2-1 extension classes; she was a past regional director of Planned 2-2 Parenthood and was an official delegate to three international 2-3 conferences on world population; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Beloved by many, Virginia Drysdale had a warm sense 2-5 of humor and an engaging personality; she was also well known for 2-6 her excellent cooking skills; and 2-7 WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, compassion, and 2-8 generosity, she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her 2-9 wisdom, warmth, and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those 2-10 who knew her; and 2-11 WHEREAS, Virginia Drysdale was a devoted wife, mother, and 2-12 grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured 2-13 forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the 2-16 family of Virginia Paine Macdaniel Drysdale: her husband, 2-17 John Drysdale; her sons and daughters-in-law, Sherman and 2-18 Kendall Macdaniel, Gibbs Macdaniel, Jr., and Nan Macdaniel, 2-19 Alfred and Amanda Macdaniel, and Putnam Macdaniel; her sister, 2-20 Dorothy Paine Snow; her grandchildren, Anne and David Landis, 2-21 Sherman and Florence Macdaniel, Sara Macdaniel, Gibbs Macdaniel III, 2-22 Shelley Macdaniel, Liesl and Don Noble, Megan Macdaniel, 2-23 Alfred Macdaniel, Jr., and Clifton Macdaniel; her three 2-24 great-grandchildren; and her two stepdaughters and stepson; 2-25 and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 3-2 members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from 3-3 the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it 3-4 do so in memory of Virginia Drysdale. 3-5 ______________________________________ 3-6 President of the Senate 3-7 I hereby certify that the above 3-8 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 3-9 on April 4, 1995, by a rising vote. 3-10 ______________________________________ 3-11 Secretary of the Senate 3-12 ______________________________________ 3-13 Member, Texas Senate
