1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pleasure
1-3 in recognizing Don L. Hicks who has been selected for the
1-4 W. O. "Bill" Durrett Senior Citizen of the Year Award, an award
1-5 named in honor of the longtime principal at Kimbell High School
1-6 who unselfishly served the Oak Cliff community; and
1-7 WHEREAS, Don Hicks is well known for his outstanding work as
1-8 a leader in the Oak Cliff community and as the Executive Director
1-9 of Dallas Southwest Osteopathic Physicians, Incorporated; and
1-10 WHEREAS, He has recently completed six years of service on
1-11 the Dallas County Mental Health and Mental Retardation Board and
1-12 has served on the Dallas School Board and as Chairman of the Oak
1-13 Cliff Chamber of Commerce; and
1-14 WHEREAS, A former minister, Mr. Hicks is a man of many
1-15 talents and interests who gives generously of his time and energy;
1-16 he is a member of the Dallas Commission on Children and Youth, the
1-17 Dallas Regional Mobility Coalition, the Dallas Concilio of Hispanic
1-18 Organizations, the Dallas Head Injury Advisory Board, and the Oak
1-19 Cliff Lions Club; and
1-20 WHEREAS, In 1990, he received the Samaritan Award from
1-21 Dallas Baptist University and was selected as the Oak Cliff Tribune
1-22 Citizen of the Year; he has also received the first Destination
1-23 Dignity Award from the Dallas County Mental Health and Mental
2-1 Retardation Center; and
2-2 WHEREAS, Don Hicks's concern for others is legendary, and he
2-3 has played a major role in the betterment of the Oak Cliff community
2-4 and the City of Dallas; and
2-5 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Don Hicks is a source of
2-6 strength to many, and his worthy accomplishments reflect his
2-7 dedication and his commitment to his fellowman; now, therefore,
2-8 be it
2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-10 74th Legislature, hereby commend Don Hicks on his exceptional
2-11 achievements and extend congratulations to him on his selection
2-12 as the recipient of the W. O. "Bill" Durrett Senior Citizen of the
2-13 Year Award; and, be it further
2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
2-15 as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
