    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Ruth Munson Smith
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
    1-6  citizens of Angleton in mourning the loss of Ruth Munson Smith
    1-7  who died March 20, 1995, at the age of 99; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born at Vann Place, the Munson Plantation on
    1-9  Oyster Creek, on October 19, 1895, Ruth Munson graduated from
   1-10  Angleton High School and married Frank T. Smith; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, A prominent pioneer of Brazoria County,
   1-12  Ruth Smith was a devout Christian and a founding member of Holy
   1-13  Comforter Episcopal Church where she was the oldest living member;
   1-14  and
   1-15        WHEREAS, An avid historian and talented writer, Mrs. Smith
   1-16  wrote of the history of Brazoria County and of the church and was
   1-17  a member of the Brazoria County Historical Museum and the
   1-18  Brazoria County Historical Commission; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, An exemplary and distinguished lady, Mrs. Smith
   1-20  was respected in the community for her hard work and her many
   1-21  accomplishments; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, A well-known civic leader, she was a charter
   1-23  member of the auxiliary of the Angleton-Danbury General Hospital
    2-1  where her husband had served as administrator, and she was a member
    2-2  of the Cradle of Texas Chapter of the Daughters of the Republic of
    2-3  Texas, the Texas Mayflower Society, and the Angleton Embroidery
    2-4  Club; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, A woman of integrity, strength, and generosity,
    2-6  she gave unselfishly of her time to others, and her wisdom, warmth,
    2-7  and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew her;
    2-8  and
    2-9        WHEREAS, Ruth Smith was a devoted wife, mother, and
   2-10  grandmother, and she leaves behind memories that will be treasured
   2-11  forever by her family and many friends; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
   2-14  bereaved family of Ruth Munson Smith:  her daughter and son-in-law,
   2-15  Hannah Frances Gayle and Ray Gayle; her son and daughter-in-law,
   2-16  Munson Smith and Evelyn Smith; her daughter-in-law, Geraldine Smith;
   2-17  and her 11 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and, be it
   2-18  further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-20  the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-21  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do
   2-22  so in memory of Ruth Smith.
