By: Madla S.R. No. 683 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Garnett I. McCallister 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-6 of Fort Stockton in mourning the loss of Garnett I. McCallister who 1-7 died March 17, 1995; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Mrs. McCallister was a former Pecos County Treasurer, 1-9 retiring from this prestigious office in 1990; her commitment to 1-10 her hometown was reflected throughout her many years of service to 1-11 her community; and 1-12 WHEREAS, A resident of Fort Stockton for over 40 years, 1-13 she was devoted to her family; Garnett and her husband, Sid, 1-14 successfully raised four children while she held a full-time 1-15 job outside her home and still managed to participate in school 1-16 activities; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, she was an active member of the 1-18 First Methodist Church where she was a Methodist Youth Fellowship 1-19 sponsor for six years; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Mrs. McCallister was active in the Democratic Party 1-21 and served as an election judge and worker during numerous election 1-22 years; and 1-23 WHEREAS, In all her activities, Garnett McCallister 2-1 always gave 100 percent of her care, dedication, and abilities; 2-2 Fort Stockton was lucky to count her as one of its most 2-3 distinguished citizens; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The community will deeply miss this lady whose 2-5 wisdom and experience were invaluable to those who had known 2-6 her throughout the years; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to her 2-9 husband, Sid, and her four children; and, be it further 2-10 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her 2-11 family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate, 2-12 and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-13 Garnett I.
