By: Turner S.R. No. 689 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Charlie B. Barmore 1-5 WHEREAS, The death of Charlie B. Barmore of Rockdale, Texas, 1-6 on January 19, 1995, was deeply mourned by his fellow residents; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Born on November 12, 1904, in Tallulah, Louisiana, to 1-8 Ruben L. and Idella Barker Barmore, Charlie Barmore was an alumnus 1-9 of the University of Alabama with a master's degree in mining 1-10 engineering; and 1-11 WHEREAS, He married Claire Virginia Carson on July 17, 1932, 1-12 in Williamsburg, West Virginia, and together they enjoyed a happy 1-13 home life until her death in 1980; and 1-14 WHEREAS, An extremely patriotic gentleman, he served his 1-15 country honorably in World War II, retiring from the United States 1-16 Army as a major; and 1-17 WHEREAS, He had worked for several coal companies before moving 1-18 to Rockdale in 1952 to help set up Alcoa's coal drying operations; 1-19 he retired in 1970 from Industrial Generating Company; and 1-20 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Mr. Barmore was a charter member 1-21 of the First Presbyterian Church of Rockdale; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Always engaged in civic activities, he was a member 1-23 of the Rockdale Masonic Lodge, AF & AM 414, the Noon Lions Club, and 2-1 the Rockdale Senior Citizens Center; and 2-2 WHEREAS, A man with abundant energy, Charlie Barmore worked 2-3 tirelessly for charitable organizations, visiting hospitals and 2-4 fixing bicycles for children; he had a great zest for life and 2-5 enjoyed planting bulbs, visiting with his family, studying the 2-6 stock market, and helping people; and 2-7 WHEREAS, He married Mabery Yancey Guthrie on December 1, 1985, 2-8 in the First Presbyterian Church of Rockdale, and they made a home 2-9 together; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Highly respected for his many contributions to his 2-11 community and his fellowman, Charlie Barmore was a beloved gentleman 2-12 who had a positive influence on the lives of countless people, and 2-13 his absence will be keenly felt; now, therefore, be it 2-14 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-15 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to his family: 2-16 his wife, Mabery Guthrie Barmore; his son, James Carson Barmore; 2-17 his daughter, Linda Diane Smithey; his stepson, Tom Guthrie; his 2-18 stepdaughter, Pat Poland; and his 14 grandchildren; and, be it 2-19 further 2-20 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-21 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from 2-22 the Texas Senate, and when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so 2-23 in memory of Charlie B.
