No. 690 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing Charlie Hurd of Mexia, Texas, on the joyous occasion 1-4 of his 103rd birthday on March 2, 1995; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born in 1892, Charlie Hurd has been labeled the 1-6 "walking Mexia history book"; at one time he was a chauffeur and 1-7 worked for some well-known Mexia families; and 1-8 WHEREAS, During his lifetime, he has witnessed two world 1-9 wars, the invention of the automobile, and the landing of 1-10 astronauts on the moon; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mr. Hurd received medals of commendation for his 1-12 service for his country during World War I; following the war, he 1-13 worked for Governor Pat Neff during his visits to Mexia; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Today, he enjoys reminiscing and takes pleasure in 1-15 the companionship of his friends and family; he frequently spends 1-16 time with his sisters, Mrs. Julia Henry and Mrs. Evelyn Foreman; 1-17 and 1-18 WHEREAS, A reception attended by many friends was given in 1-19 Mr. Hurd's honor, and he was presented with a special plaque for 1-20 his birthday; and 1-21 WHEREAS, A beloved and respected member of his community, 1-22 Charlie Hurd is noted for his courage, his compassion for others, 1-23 and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, 2-1 therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-3 74th Legislature, hereby join the family and friends of 2-4 Charlie Hurd in extending best wishes to him and congratulations 2-5 on the grand occasion of his 103rd birthday; and, be it further 2-6 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-7 him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the above 2-11 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-12 on April 12, 1995. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
