No. 697 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Melvin Weiss 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens 1-6 of Brenham in mourning the loss of Melvin "Butch" Weiss who died 1-7 March 21, 1995, at the age of 76; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Born October 28, 1918, in the Mound Hill community 1-9 of Washington County, Butch Weiss attended Mound Hill School; he 1-10 was a veteran of World War II and was a member of American Legion 1-11 Buddy Wright Post 48; he married Gladys Stoll Meier on 1-12 December 20, 1985; and 1-13 WHEREAS, A member of the South Texas Semi-Pro Baseball Hall 1-14 of Fame, Mr. Weiss was a talented athlete who spent time in his 1-15 younger years playing baseball with the Mound Hill Hillers team, 1-16 a club he helped organize; and 1-17 WHEREAS, He was dedicated to his work as the owner of Weiss 1-18 Store in Mound Hill and was a retired carpenter; and 1-19 WHEREAS, An exemplary gentleman, Butch Weiss was respected 1-20 in the community for his many accomplishments; and 1-21 WHEREAS, A man of integrity, strength, and generosity, he 1-22 gave unselfishly of his time to others, and his wisdom, warmth, 1-23 and valued counsel will not be forgotten by those who knew him; 2-1 and 2-2 WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Butch Weiss was a member of 2-3 Saint Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Brenham; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Butch Weiss was a devoted husband and stepfather, 2-5 and he leaves behind memories that will be treasured forever by 2-6 his family and many friends; now, therefore, be it 2-7 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-8 74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the bereaved 2-9 family of Melvin Weiss: his wife, Gladys Weiss; his brothers and 2-10 sisters-in-law, Alfred and Eleanor Weiss and Herbert and Edna Weiss; 2-11 his sisters, Norma Borchgardt and Clara Strangmeyer; and his 2-12 stepsons, stepdaughters-in-law, and stepgrandchildren; and, be it 2-13 further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-15 members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-16 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so 2-17 in memory of Butch Weiss. 2-18 ______________________________________ 2-19 President of the Senate 2-20 I hereby certify that the above 2-21 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-22 on April 12, 1995, by a rising vote. 2-23 ______________________________________ 2-24 Secretary of the Senate 2-25 ______________________________________ 3-1 Member, Texas Senate
