No. 710 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, It is a distinct pleasure for the Senate of Texas 1-3 to congratulate Kellye Amason, who was recently crowned Miss Austin 1-4 1995, and to welcome this lovely visitor to the Senate chamber; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A native of Winnsboro and the daughter of Clyde 1-6 and Glenda Amason, Kellye was chosen on February 11, 1995, to 1-7 represent the Capital City in the Miss Texas Pageant in Fort Worth 1-8 on July 8, 1995; and 1-9 WHEREAS, The Miss Austin Scholarship Pageant is an official 1-10 preliminary to the Miss Texas and Miss America Scholarship Pageants 1-11 and is an excellent opportunity for young women to compete for 1-12 scholarship money for their college education; winners are 1-13 selected based on four phases of competition: talent, interview, 1-14 swimsuit/fitness, and eveningwear/presentation; contest winners 1-15 become role models and spokespersons while developing self-esteem 1-16 and confidence; and 1-17 WHEREAS, An exemplary young Texan, Miss Amason is an honor 1-18 student at The University of Texas College of Pharmacy; she has 1-19 been actively involved in Kappa Epsilon, the College of Pharmacy's 1-20 honorary sorority, donating countless hours to various projects 1-21 including the Pediatric AIDS League of Austin, nursing homes, and 1-22 the Children's Hospital; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Kellye was accepted into the School of Pharmacy one 2-1 year early because of her excellent grade point average; she is 2-2 an experienced motivational speaker and has made presentations to 2-3 over 5,000 middle and high school students stressing time management, 2-4 goal setting, the dangers of substance abuse, and the importance of 2-5 making informed choices; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The articulate speaker enjoys talking to civic and 2-7 community organizations about Pediatric AIDS and has developed a 2-8 poison prevention presentation for elementary school students; and 2-9 WHEREAS, An exemplary representative of the City of Austin, 2-10 Kellye Amason is charming and gracious in manner and spirit and is 2-11 truly deserving of the honor bestowed on her; now, therefore, be it 2-12 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-13 74th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud Kellye Amason and 2-14 extend best wishes to her for continued success in the Miss Texas 2-15 Pageant; and, be it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-17 Miss Amason as a memento of her visit to the State Capitol and 2-18 as a token of the high esteem of the Texas Senate. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 President of the Senate 2-21 I hereby certify that the above 2-22 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-23 on April 12, 1995. 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Secretary of the Senate 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 Member, Texas Senate
