No. 711 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pleasure 1-3 in recognizing the 25th anniversary of the Week of the Young Child, 1-4 a national event to focus attention on the rights and needs of young 1-5 children; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Sponsored yearly by the National Association for the 1-7 Education of Young Children, the special week is sponsored at the 1-8 state level by the Texas Association for the Education of Young 1-9 Children and locally by the Austin Association for the Education 1-10 of Young Children; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Every child belongs to his community and has the 1-12 right to a high quality, early childhood education; research shows 1-13 that excellent early childhood education programs help prevent many 1-14 societal problems, including juvenile crime, teenage pregnancy, and 1-15 school drop out; and 1-16 WHEREAS, The work being done by child care providers in 1-17 our community is difficult and important work which benefits both 1-18 families and the community; and 1-19 WHEREAS, The Austin Association for the Education of Young 1-20 Children is a nonprofit organization of persons who are concerned 1-21 about the well-being of young children and who study, interpret, 1-22 and work to improve the education and development of all children; 1-23 and 2-1 WHEREAS, The organization conducts workshops, seminars, and 2-2 annual conferences and shares information, ideas, and resources; 2-3 it disseminates information on current legislation related to the 2-4 rights and needs of young children and provides counseling services 2-5 to members and nonmembers; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The association also presents awards to individuals 2-7 who have made significant contributions toward the lives of young 2-8 children and awards educational grants each year to students in 2-9 Child Development and Early Childhood Education; now, therefore, 2-10 be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-12 74th Legislature, hereby commend the work of all those involved 2-13 in the education and care of young children and declare April 23 2-14 through April 29, 1995, as the Week of the Young Child; and, be 2-15 it further 2-16 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-17 Austin Association for the Education of Young Children as an 2-18 expression of the appreciation and high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-19 ______________________________________ 2-20 President of the Senate 2-21 I hereby certify that the above 2-22 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-23 on April 12, 1995. 2-24 ______________________________________ 2-25 Secretary of the Senate 3-1 ______________________________________ 3-2 Member, Texas Senate
