    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The State of Texas has recently completed the
    1-3  restoration of the Texas Capitol, the most comprehensive renovation
    1-4  of any state capitol in the nation; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Following the five-year Capitol Preservation and
    1-6  Extension Project, the Capitol will be rededicated in April, 1995;
    1-7  and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The State Preservation Board and Southwest Airlines
    1-9  sponsored a contest in which seventh-grade history classes built
   1-10  replicas of the State Capitol and wrote individual 250-word essays
   1-11  on the theme "What the Capitol Means to Me"; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, All across the state, seventh-grade history classes
   1-13  were given the opportunity to construct a model of the State Capitol
   1-14  using study materials such as scaled original drawings, information
   1-15  on how to read architectural drawings, and a history of the
   1-16  construction of the Capitol; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The exercise was designed to encourage students
   1-18  and their families to learn about the construction of the Capitol
   1-19  and to reflect on its relevance to Texas in the 1880s and today;
   1-20  and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The 14 students in Ms. Sally Robeau's history
   1-22  class from Calallen Middle School in Corpus Christi, Texas,
   1-23  whose principal is Ms. Donna McGee, are the proud winners in their
    2-1  category, and their winning replica of the Capitol proudly
    2-2  displayed in the Capital Lower Rotunda for viewing by the public;
    2-3  and
    2-4        WHEREAS, These students are to be congratulated for their
    2-5  creative accomplishment, and they have brought honor to their
    2-6  school, their city, and their state; now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-8  74th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the achievement
    2-9  of these outstanding students from Calallen Middle School and
   2-10  their teacher; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-12  them as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
