    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The State of Texas has recently completed the
    1-3  restoration of the Texas Capitol, the most comprehensive renovation
    1-4  of any state capitol in the nation; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Following the five-year Capitol Preservation and
    1-6  Extension Project, the Capitol will be rededicated in April, 1995;
    1-7  and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The State Preservation Board and Southwest Airlines
    1-9  sponsored a contest in which seventh-grade history classes built
   1-10  replicas of the State Capitol and wrote individual 250-word essays
   1-11  on the theme "What the Capitol Means to Me"; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, All across the state, seventh-grade history classes
   1-13  were given the opportunity to construct a model of the State Capitol
   1-14  using study materials such as scaled original drawings, information
   1-15  on how to read architectural drawings, and a history of the
   1-16  construction of the Capitol; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The exercise was designed to encourage students and
   1-18  their families to learn about the construction of the Capitol and
   1-19  to reflect on its relevance to Texas in the 1880s and today; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Twenty students in Ms. Carolyn Walmsley's history
   1-21  class from E. M. Pease Middle School in San Antonio, Texas, whose
   1-22  principal is Mr. Sterling Christy, are the proud winners in their
   1-23  category, and their winning replica of the Capitol proudly displayed
    2-1  in the Capitol Lower Rotunda for viewing by the public; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, These students are to be congratulated for their
    2-3  creative accomplishment, and they have brought honor to their
    2-4  school, their city, and their state; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  74th Legislature, hereby commend and applaud the achievement of
    2-7  these outstanding students from E. M. Pease Middle School and
    2-8  their teacher; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-10  them as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
