No. 722 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in 1-3 recognizing The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on 1-4 the occasion of its open house and the dedication of the Welfare 1-5 Services Peanut Butter Production Center; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The recently renovated Peanut Butter Production 1-7 Center is located in North Houston and is part of the church's 1-8 general welfare program which was organized in 1936 to assist 1-9 church members in need; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The facility is financed through voluntary 1-11 contributions, and much of the work at the center is taken care 1-12 of by Latter-day Saint volunteers who focus on helping others 1-13 to help themselves; and 1-14 WHEREAS, In an effort to relieve hunger, church-owned 1-15 canneries located throughout the United States are being made 1-16 available to local charitable organizations for humanitarian 1-17 canning projects; and 1-18 WHEREAS, With the help of local charitable agencies, the 1-19 canneries have processed and distributed thousands of cases of 1-20 food to needy people in recent months, and the Peanut Butter 1-21 Production Center will serve as an important extension of the 1-22 welfare program and benefit many people; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Over the years, The Church of Jesus Christ of 2-1 Latter-day Saints has ministered faithfully to the needs of 2-2 innumerable men and women and has continued to undertake worthy 2-3 projects in the community; and 2-4 WHEREAS, The church is an invaluable source of strength for 2-5 its members and for people throughout the world, and the renovation 2-6 of the Peanut Butter Production Center is an example of the church's 2-7 deep commitment to its humanitarian goals; now, therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-9 74th Legislature, hereby commend The Church of Jesus Christ of 2-10 Latter-day Saints for its work on behalf of the needy and extend 2-11 best wishes for a joyous open house and Peanut Butter Production 2-12 Center dedication; and, be it further 2-13 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the 2-14 church as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate. 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 President of the Senate 2-17 I hereby certify that the above 2-18 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-19 on April 18, 1995. 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 Secretary of the Senate 2-22 ______________________________________ 2-23 Member, Texas Senate
