    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is proud to
    1-3  recognize the Westlake High School girls basketball team on the
    1-4  momentous occasion of capturing the state title in the Class 5A
    1-5  Championship; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Beating the Duncanville High School girls
    1-7  basketball team in a cliffhanging game that went into overtime,
    1-8  the Lady Chaparrals produced a stellar performance that won the
    1-9  title, 59 to 56; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Exhibiting perseverance, team unity, and respect
   1-11  for the highest ideals of American sportsmanship, team members
   1-12  brought honor to their school and their community; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Because this was the first year that Westlake was
   1-14  in its new division, the team trained especially hard, devoting
   1-15  time and energy to practicing the fundamental skills of the game;
   1-16  and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Each team member exercised individual discipline in
   1-18  her practice which was apparent in the Lady Chaparrals' excellent
   1-19  showing against Duncanville; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, Head Coach Cathy Self, Coach Katrina Hodge, Coach
   1-21  Lynne Bryant, Trainer Vicki Stafco, and dedicated and talented
   1-22  team members Korie Morgan, Sarah Herrington, Krista Watson,
   1-23  Kendra Harrell, Sarah Howden, Jay Anna Harris, Elizabeth Randolph,
    2-1  Amy Dobson, Ginny Howry, Lindsay Meyer, Julie Schroeder,
    2-2  Paige Miller, and Kathryn Murfee deserve recognition for their
    2-3  superior efforts and flawless performance; now, therefore, be it
    2-4        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-5  74th Legislature, hereby pay tribute to the Westlake High School
    2-6  girls basketball team for its great victory and applaud the coach
    2-7  and each of the team players for a job well done; and, be it
    2-8  further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-10  this excellent team as a token of the highest regard of the
   2-11  Texas Senate.
