    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas proudly
    1-3  recognizes Reverend John William Bowie on the occasion of his
    1-4  second anniversary as Pastor of the True Light Baptist Church
    1-5  of Houston; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Reverend Bowie has served as a public schoolteacher
    1-7  and a principal and as a pastor in Denver and Los Angeles; he was
    1-8  formerly a Deacon and Sunday School superintendent at True Light
    1-9  Baptist Church and joined the church as its pastor in April of 1993;
   1-10  and
   1-11        WHEREAS, While serving as a pastor, Reverend Bowie has
   1-12  ministered faithfully to the physical and spiritual needs of
   1-13  innumerable Christians; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Under his outstanding leadership, the True Light
   1-15  Baptist Church is providing enlightenment, hope, and support to
   1-16  the Houston community; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Inspirational and dedicated to helping others,
   1-18  this beloved pastor has devoted his time and energy unselfishly to
   1-19  the members of his church and the residents of Harris County; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In addition to serving as church pastor,
   1-21  Reverend Bowie is president of the Independent Heights Crusade
   1-22  for Christ and president of Metropolitan One Church and One
   1-23  Child of Texas, Incorporated; he is co-chairman of the Advisory
    2-1  Board for Vision of Hope, Incorporated; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, An accomplished scholar and theologian,
    2-3  Reverend Bowie has had a positive influence on the lives of
    2-4  many, and he is greatly respected and beloved for his sincerity
    2-5  and dedication; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby join the members of True Light Baptist
    2-8  Church in commending Reverend Bowie for his fervent service to
    2-9  his church, his fellowman, and his community; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-11  him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
