    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                           Lester W. Gibson
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the friends
    1-6  and family of Lester W. "Hap" Gibson, in mourning this native son
    1-7  of Lampasas County, who died on April 3, 1995, at the age of 79;
    1-8  and
    1-9        WHEREAS, This highly respected gentleman was descended from
   1-10  one of the first families to settle the county; he was a graduate
   1-11  of Bend and San Saba high schools and John Tarleton College; his
   1-12  presence in the community was a positive influence on countless
   1-13  friends and acquaintances; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Hap Gibson was a man of active intellect and
   1-15  varied interests, being both a stock farmer and engaging in sundry
   1-16  business ventures, such as holding a partnership in Gibson Brothers
   1-17  Enterprises; his experience and counsel will be sorely missed; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, Mr. Gibson nobly served his country during
   1-19  World War II in the First Cavalry Division which participated in
   1-20  some of the most crucial and hard-fought tactical actions of the
   1-21  war while attached to the Fourth Armored Division commanded by
   1-22  General Patton; Mr. Gibson's courage and fortitude in battle were
   1-23  honored by his comrades and the nation, and he was awarded the
    2-1  Silver Star; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, He was once again honored by his brothers-in-arms
    2-3  at a military graveside service held under the auspices of the
    2-4  First Cavalry Division; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, His steadiness of purpose, his devotion to family,
    2-6  and his ability to live each day to the fullest will long be
    2-7  cherished by those who knew him; now, therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  74th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the
   2-10  members of his family:  his brother and sister-in-law, Foy and
   2-11  Clovis Gibson; his nieces, Clovia Ketchum and LaVada McCoury;
   2-12  and his nephews, Grady Gibson and Glen Gibson; and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
   2-14  family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
   2-15  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-16  Lester W. "Hap" Gibson.
