No. 778 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The commemoration of a 50th wedding anniversary is 1-3 a grand observance worthy of much celebration; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Carmen Alonzo and James Giblin entered into the bonds 1-5 of holy matrimony on April 27, 1945, in Mexico City; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The achievement of this important milestone in their 1-7 lives is the result of the love, devotion, and mutual respect of 1-8 two outstanding individuals; and 1-9 WHEREAS, James was born on December 21, 1917, in New York 1-10 where he spent his childhood; he was a pilot in the Army Air Corps 1-11 during World War II and was shot down over Italy; detained in the 1-12 prison camp at Chieti, he managed to escape to avoid being shipped 1-13 with other American prisoners to Germany after Mussolini's fall from 1-14 power; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Born in Mexico City on December 18, 1917, Carmen 1-16 grew up in Germany, France, and Japan and attended college in 1-17 New York City where she met her future husband; after their 1-18 marriage, the couple lived in New York City, Bogota, Colombia, 1-19 Laredo, and McAllen where they now reside; and 1-20 WHEREAS, God's grace and blessings have been bestowed in 1-21 abundance on the devoted couple who became the parents of a lovely 1-22 daughter, Pamela, born June 7, 1946, in New York; a graduate of 1-23 The University of Texas School of Law, Pamela is a partner at 2-1 Baker and Botts and is happily married to Malcolm Smith; and 2-2 WHEREAS, James and Carmen have formed an ideal relationship 2-3 based on love, mutual respect, and understanding; their hearts are 2-4 filled with beautiful memories of their life together that are 2-5 cherished more dearly with each passing year; and 2-6 WHEREAS, Their long and happy union has been an inspiration 2-7 to all who know them and share in their warmth and caring; now, 2-8 therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-10 74th Legislature, hereby recognize Mr. and Mrs. James Giblin 2-11 on the grand occasion of their golden wedding anniversary with 2-12 best wishes for many more years of continued health and happiness; 2-13 and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for this 2-15 distinguished couple as an expression of the high regard of the 2-16 Texas Senate. 2-17 ______________________________ _______________________________ 2-18 Member, Texas Senate Member, Texas Senate 2-19 ______________________________ _______________________________ 2-20 Member, Texas Senate Member, Texas Senate 2-21 _______________________________ 2-22 President of the Senate 2-23 I hereby certify that the 2-24 above Resolution was adopted by 2-25 the Senate on April 27, 1995. 3-1 _______________________________ 3-2 Secretary of the Senate
