    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
    1-3  recognize the historic merger of Lockheed and Martin Marietta;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, The resulting company is Lockheed Martin,
    1-6  a premier-diversified, advanced-technology enterprise; and
    1-7        WHEREAS, The largest aerospace-electronics company in the
    1-8  world, Lockheed Martin is also America's 15th largest industrial
    1-9  company, with $23 billion in domestic and international sales,
   1-10  and major operations or laboratories throughout the United States;
   1-11  and
   1-12        WHEREAS, In combining the two companies, Lockheed Martin
   1-13  seeks to preserve our nation's technological capabilities, expand
   1-14  opportunities, enhance its global competitiveness, and significantly
   1-15  reduce costs; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Lockheed Martin builds on a unique heritage and
   1-17  expects to maintain its technological edge through affordable
   1-18  investment in research and development; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, The outstanding mission success record, excellent
   1-20  schedule, and budget performance of the two parent companies make
   1-21  it a certainty that the new Lockheed Martin will be a success in
   1-22  all its pursuits; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, The Abilene facility of the new company celebrates
    2-1  its 45th anniversary as part of the Abilene community, and it
    2-2  looks forward to a rewarding future by meeting the challenges
    2-3  of the years ahead in the areas of national security, space
    2-4  exploration, environmental issues, and the information age; now,
    2-5  therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby extend its congratulations to Lockheed
    2-8  Martin as it looks forward to the future; and, be it further
    2-9        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-10  company as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate.
