    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, It is a distinct honor for the Texas Senate to
    1-3  recognize Floyd Wagstaff for his exceptional contributions to
    1-4  Tyler Junior College and the citizens of Tyler; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Mr. Wagstaff will be recognized by his former
    1-6  colleagues and associates at a ceremonial dinner and roast in his
    1-7  honor hosted by the Sharon Shrine Temple of Tyler on April 28, 1995;
    1-8  and
    1-9        WHEREAS, The legendary coach of Tyler Junior College played
   1-10  a major role in establishing the National Junior College Athletic
   1-11  Association; the first athletic director for the college, he was
   1-12  also the college's first football coach and was head coach of men's
   1-13  basketball for 37 years until he retired in 1984; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Mr. Wagstaff established a phenomenal record
   1-15  with 743 wins and became the second winningest basketball coach in
   1-16  junior college athletics history; during his illustrious career,
   1-17  Tyler Junior College won two National Junior College Championships
   1-18  in basketball; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, In 1993, the Nell and Floyd Wagstaff Endowed Athletic
   1-20  Scholarship was established with the Tyler Junior College Foundation
   1-21  offering scholarships for deserving student athletes; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, Floyd Wagstaff has been a Shriner for more than 40
   1-23  years; he was instrumental in establishing a charter in 1962 for
    2-1  Sharon Shrine Temple and became a charter member serving for several
    2-2  years on the director's staff; and
    2-3        WHEREAS, The Shriners have been closely associated with
    2-4  Tyler Junior College over the years as sponsors of the Texas Junior
    2-5  College Championship Shrine Football Game and have worked with the
    2-6  national junior college women's basketball tournament; and
    2-7        WHEREAS, Mr. Wagstaff is an exemplary citizen who has
    2-8  devoted his life to the people of Tyler; the beloved coach has
    2-9  had a profound impact on the lives of numerous athletes who have
   2-10  benefitted from his sound advice and his ability to bring out the
   2-11  best in each player; now, therefore, be it
   2-12        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-13  74th Legislature, hereby extend hearty congratulations to
   2-14  Floyd Wagstaff on this momentous occasion; and, be it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-16  this distinguished gentleman as an expression of the high regard
   2-17  of the Texas Senate.
