    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The City of Lake Jackson is commemorating an
    1-3  important aspect of Texas history on June 16, 1995, when the
    1-4  Pathway Dedication Ceremony is held at the former location of
    1-5  the plantation home of Abner Jackson; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Lake Jackson derives its name from this historic
    1-7  homesite which has been designated a State Archeological Landmark
    1-8  Site by the Texas Antiquities Committee to recognize its importance
    1-9  in Texas history; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The significance of this unique area lies in its
   1-11  multicomponents that represent several layers of our state's
   1-12  history; these components include habitation by Indians, the
   1-13  plantation era represented by the plantation built by Abner Jackson,
   1-14  the Lake Jackson Plantation Sugar Mill which was run by convict
   1-15  labor following the war between the states, and, more recently,
   1-16  the site of the Dow Chemical Company picnic grounds; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, In June, 1994, the Texas Archeological Society held
   1-18  its Field School at this location and, because of its substantial
   1-19  findings, again will hold its 1995 Field School there; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, The Lake Jackson 50th Committee has undertaken a
   1-21  project to construct a memorial brick pathway to the Plantation
   1-22  Site, and the dedication ceremony will be held in conjunction with
   1-23  the Texas Archeology Society Field School's open house to allow
    2-1  the public to view its findings; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Over 400 bricks have been purchased for the pathway
    2-3  containing the names of the individual donors, and the ongoing
    2-4  project will continue for many years to provide site maintenance and
    2-5  development; now, therefore, be it
    2-6        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-7  74th Legislature, hereby commend the City of Lake Jackson for
    2-8  preserving and developing the Abner Jackson Plantation Site;
    2-9  and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
   2-11  the Lake Jackson 50th Committee as a memento of the dedication
   2-12  of the memorial pathway.
