No. 796 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 1-3 recognize Dora Garcia, who attended the School To Work Program 1-4 in Dallas recently; and 1-5 WHEREAS, At the seminar, students first listened to others 1-6 speak on the School To Work idea; then 10 students held a panel 1-7 discussion; and 1-8 WHEREAS, School To Work is an innovative three-year program 1-9 designed to incorporate student participation in education; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Students in the program intern in a business, and 1-11 the last year they go to a technical college; if the students then 1-12 pass a test, they receive a certificate for one year called the 1-13 work base certificate; and 1-14 WHEREAS, While the students are working they receive minimum 1-15 wage; the students think it is a good idea because they are able 1-16 to examine where their interests lie; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Dora Garcia, a sophomore, indicated that she would 1-18 be interested in trying the concept; this novel new approach may 1-19 be a way to keep more students interested in staying in school; 1-20 now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-22 74th Legislature, hereby congratulate Dora Garcia on her 1-23 attendance at the seminar and wish her success in the future; 2-1 and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-3 her as an expression of the high regard of the Texas Senate. 2-4 ______________________________________ 2-5 President of the Senate 2-6 I hereby certify that the above 2-7 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-8 on April 26, 1995. 2-9 ______________________________________ 2-10 Secretary of the Senate 2-11 ______________________________________ 2-12 Member, Texas Senate
