    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                        John Arnold DeVoke, Jr.
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the friends
    1-6  and family of John Arnold DeVoke, Jr., in mourning this native
    1-7  son of Texas, who died March 13, 1995, in Houston, Texas, at the
    1-8  age of 67; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Mr. DeVoke was born January 23, 1928, in Brenham,
   1-10  and was a 1945 graduate of Brenham High School and a 1949 graduate
   1-11  of Blinn College; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, He was baptized in 1941 in the First Baptist Church
   1-13  of Brenham and was confirmed in 1955 in Ascension Lutheran Church
   1-14  in Houston; he was married on November 27, 1949, to his beloved
   1-15  wife, Bobbie Joe Zwernemann in Grace Lutheran Church in Brenham;
   1-16  and
   1-17        WHEREAS, He served in the United States Navy from 1945
   1-18  to 1948 and continued in a life of varied accomplishments, being
   1-19  a lifetime member of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, a member
   1-20  of the National Bankers Association, and an active member of Grace
   1-21  Lutheran Church; he was, as well, past president of Industrial State
   1-22  Bank of Houston and past vice-president of Washington County State
   1-23  Bank; and
    2-1        WHEREAS, Noted for his deep faith in God and his selfless
    2-2  devotion to family, John Arnold DeVoke, Jr., provided a positive
    2-3  and inspiring influence in the lives of countless people, and he
    2-4  will be greatly missed; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  74th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to the
    2-7  members of his family:  his wife, Bobbie Joe DeVoke; his son,
    2-8  John William DeVoke; his daughters and sons-in-law, Debbie and
    2-9  Johnny Moore and Becky and Bill Chase; and his grandchildren,
   2-10  Anne Moore, Heidi Hoffard, and John "J. R." Hoffard; and, be it
   2-11  further
   2-12        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for his
   2-13  family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
   2-14  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, to do so in memory of
   2-15  John Arnold DeVoke.
