    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Paul Quinn College captured the National Small
    1-3  College Athletic Association basketball championship for 1995, and
    1-4  the Texas Senate is pleased to extend congratulations to the team
    1-5  on its outstanding achievement; and
    1-6        WHEREAS, Before 200 fans at Highland Park High School in
    1-7  Amarillo, the Paul Quinn Tigers took control of all three of their
    1-8  tournament games by using big runs and playing together as a team;
    1-9  and
   1-10        WHEREAS, The Tigers defeated a tough Northwest Christian
   1-11  College team by a score of 93 to 83 to win the national title and
   1-12  finished their season with a 21 to 12 record; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Before moving to Dallas, the Paul Quinn College
   1-14  Tigers men's basketball team captured their first National Small
   1-15  College Athletic Association title in 1988, and this is the first
   1-16  time the team has won the national title since relocating; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Head Coach James "Zip" Summers
   1-18  and Assistant Coach Tyrone Jones, the Tigers devoted countless
   1-19  hours to practicing the fundamental skills of the game and
   1-20  exercised individual discipline to develop their athletic ability
   1-21  to the highest level; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, With their splendid athletic performances in the
   1-23  national tournament, these young men have brought recognition and
    2-1  honor to the students and faculty of Paul Quinn College, and their
    2-2  notable success is truly worthy of legislative recognition:
    2-3  Marc Hill, Chris Gillespie, Michael Taylor, Robert Wilson,
    2-4  Jason Walker, Jerome Rogers, Lester Hunt, Ron Wilson, Rodney Lewis,
    2-5  James Watkins, Mario Stephens, Esau Summerville, and Michael Morrell;
    2-6  now, therefore, be it
    2-7        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-8  74th Legislature, hereby extend hearty congratulations to the
    2-9  Paul Quinn College men's basketball team and their coaches for their
   2-10  victorious season; and, be it further
   2-11        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-12  Tigers as a memento of their 1995 championship.
