    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes pride in
    1-3  joining the children of Maria Ybarra of Laredo in recognizing her
    1-4  as an outstanding citizen and homemaker; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Maria Ybarra was born in Zacatecas, Zacatecas, Mexico,
    1-6  September 29, 1937, and immigrated into the United States in the
    1-7  early 1950s; she gave birth to 11 children between 1956 and 1976
    1-8  before becoming a widow in 1979; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, As a single parent, she raised her 11 children and
   1-10  one niece without help and managed to consistently find employment
   1-11  by which she could support her family; she worked in upholstering,
   1-12  managed a small hotel, worked at a restaurant, and established a
   1-13  babysitting service; and
   1-14        WHEREAS, Throughout her life, Maria Ybarra has given
   1-15  generously of her time and energy to others; a hardworking,
   1-16  independent, strong-willed individual, she has been an inspiration
   1-17  to her friends and family; and
   1-18        WHEREAS, A source of strength and joy to her children, she has
   1-19  been both affectionate and strict, setting an example of high moral
   1-20  principles and maintaining a drug-free household; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The success of her children is a testament to
   1-22  Maria Ybarra's superior parenting skills; all of her children have
   1-23  attended college, except for the youngest who is graduating from
    2-1  high school this year and will attend Laredo Community College; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, Her children are productive members of society and
    2-3  are model citizens who carry with them the virtues of love and hard
    2-4  work instilled in them by their mother; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, Maria Ybarra inspired her children to remain in
    2-6  school and receive the type of education that would lead to
    2-7  worthwhile and productive careers; today, they hold positions in
    2-8  teaching, personnel management, law enforcement, clerking, and
    2-9  banking; and
   2-10        WHEREAS, An exemplary lady who is admired in her community
   2-11  for her accomplishments, Maria Ybarra deserves recognition for
   2-12  her perseverance, her courage, and her remarkable success in
   2-13  single-handedly raising a family of 12 children; now, therefore,
   2-14  be it
   2-15        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-16  74th Legislature, hereby commend Maria Ybarra of Laredo for her
   2-17  hard work and her many achievements as a single parent and extend
   2-18  to her best wishes for the years ahead; and, be it further
   2-19        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
   2-20  as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
