By: Nixon S.R. No. 831 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, It is indeed an honor and a distinct pleasure for 1-3 the Texas Senate to join the citizens of Silsbee, Texas, in praising 1-4 Bevil Lindsey for his many years of devoted service to the Silsbee 1-5 Independent School District; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Throughout his 50 years as a teacher, Mr. Lindsey 1-7 has earned the admiration and esteem of his colleagues through his 1-8 dedication and excellent teaching methods; and 1-9 WHEREAS, An inspiring and gifted educator who has captured 1-10 the imagination and attention of his students, Mr. Lindsey is an 1-11 exemplary role model, guiding his pupils with firmness, fairness, 1-12 and love; and 1-13 WHEREAS, He is the recipient of numerous honors for his 1-14 innovative approach to teaching and for his outstanding leadership; 1-15 in 1949, Governor Beauford Jester recognized Mr. Lindsey for 1-16 coordinating interaction between his eighth grade civics class 1-17 and the State School for the Deaf in Austin as an Adopt-a-School 1-18 Partner; and 1-19 WHEREAS, He also received recognition from Speaker of the 1-20 House Price Daniels for his outstanding educational leadership 1-21 after organizing the first all-girl drill team in Hardin County 1-22 in the early 1950s; and 1-23 WHEREAS, The esteemed educator showed his creativity and 2-1 versatility when he wrote and produced May Fetes that included the 2-2 band, choir, and all students in grades one through 12, thereby 2-3 earning recognition from Governor Allan Shivers; and 2-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Lindsey continued to receive accolades for his 2-5 teaching when he was named Teacher of the Year in 1981-1982 by the 2-6 Silsbee Parent Teachers Association and was one of 12 finalists for 2-7 Texas Teacher of the Year; and in 1987-1988, he was the honored 2-8 recipient of the District Five Texas Association of Secondary 2-9 School Principals Award for Outstanding Teaching in 1987-1988; and 2-10 WHEREAS, Few individuals have given so selflessly to educating 2-11 our youth as has Bevil Lindsey throughout his 50 years of devoted 2-12 service; now, therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-14 74th Legislature, hereby express its deepest gratitude to 2-15 Bevil Lindsey and commend him for his notable accomplishments in 2-16 the field of education; and, be it further 2-17 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-18 this distinguished Texan as a token of the highest regard of the 2-19 Texas Senate. 2-20 ______________________________________ 2-21 President of the Senate 2-22 I hereby certify that the above 2-23 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-24 on April 27, 1995. 2-25 ______________________________________ 3-1 Secretary of the Senate 3-2 ______________________________________ 3-3 Member, Texas Senate
