    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                            James W. Farris
    1-5        WHEREAS, A familiar and much respected civic leader was
    1-6  mourned by citizens of the Paris and Lamar County area with the
    1-7  passing of former mayor James W. Farris on March 19, 1995, at the
    1-8  age of 54; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Born August 13, 1940, in Oklahoma City, he attended
   1-10  school in McAlester, Oklahoma, and received a bachelor of science
   1-11  degree in Industrial Management Engineering from the University of
   1-12  Oklahoma; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, In spite of the many hours Mr. Farris worked as a
   1-14  realtor and as a marketing consultant for Harrison-Walker and
   1-15  Harper, he threw himself into important civic projects in Paris
   1-16  and Lamar County, devoting himself in particular to improving health
   1-17  care; and he served on the Board of McCuistion Regional Medical
   1-18  Center and shouldered the role of a trustee of the L. P. McCuistion
   1-19  Foundation; and
   1-20        WHEREAS, His contributions did not stop there, as he served
   1-21  two terms as mayor of Paris, from 1971 through 1973, and served
   1-22  terms as city councilman both before and after his stint in the
   1-23  mayor's office; he was co-chairman of the Industrial Development
    2-1  Committee of the Paris and Lamar County Chamber of Commerce, and
    2-2  he served on the Chamber Board of Directors and the board and
    2-3  executive committee of the Paris Industrial Foundation, a group
    2-4  which brought significant industries to Paris; and
    2-5        WHEREAS, He did not ignore education, but gave of his time to
    2-6  the Paris Education Foundation, the state Rural Education Board,
    2-7  and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board; and
    2-8        WHEREAS, Filled with indomitable energy and dedication, he
    2-9  also was a past president of the Paris Rotary Club, and he
   2-10  received a Paul Harris Fellowship; nor did Mr. Farris neglect
   2-11  the spiritual side of life; he served as an elder and trustee as
   2-12  well as other positions in the Central Presbyterian Church; and
   2-13        WHEREAS, James Farris married Ginna Stone in November, 1963,
   2-14  in Paris, and together they raised a fine family; and
   2-15        WHEREAS, Serving on innumerable other boards and holding
   2-16  various positions in charitable organizations, Mr. Farris generously
   2-17  and steadfastly devoted himself to the betterment of his community,
   2-18  and his like will hardly be seen again; now, therefore, be it
   2-19        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-20  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the members
   2-21  of his family:  his wife, Ginna; and his sons, David Grant Farris
   2-22  and James Shelby Farris; and, be it further
   2-23        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for the
   2-24  members of his family as an expression of deepest sympathy from
   2-25  the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it
    3-1  do so in memory of James W. Farris.
