1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
1-3 recognize Dr. Marvin R. Felder on the momentous occasion of his
1-4 retirement from the presidency of Temple Junior College; and
1-5 WHEREAS, This outstanding gentleman has served in the office
1-6 of President since 1973, and during the past 22 years, he has seen
1-7 his beloved institution grow and prosper; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Born January 27, 1933, in El Campo, Texas, he
1-9 served his country honorably in the United States Air Force from
1-10 1954 through 1958; and
1-11 WHEREAS, He married Joy Martin and together they made
1-12 a home and raised two lovely daughters, Julie Gay Wolfe and
1-13 Tracy Ann Cavanaugh; and
1-14 WHEREAS, He received his associate of arts degree from
1-15 Wharton County Junior College and his bachelor of science degree
1-16 from The University of Texas at Austin; one year later he completed
1-17 his master's degree from the same school, and in 1970 he completed
1-18 his doctoral degree in junior college administration; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Highly respected in his community, Dr. Felder
1-20 has been recognized as a winner of the "Distinguished Graduate
1-21 Award" by the College of Education at The University of Texas at
1-22 Austin; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Recognized as a leader in his field, he is a member
2-1 of the National Political Science Honorary Society, Pi Sigma Alpha;
2-2 he received the Texas Alumni Hall of Honor Award in 1995 from Phi
2-3 Theta Kappa Honorary Society; and
2-4 WHEREAS, His devotion to his profession and his exceptional
2-5 skills have earned him the respect and approbation he so richly
2-6 deserves; and
2-7 WHEREAS, The varied and notable achievements of
2-8 Dr. Marvin R. Felder have greatly contributed to the growth and
2-9 progress of his community and his state; now, therefore, be it
2-10 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
2-11 74th Legislature, hereby commend Dr. Marvin R. Felder for his
2-12 superlative career of service to the people of Texas and wish
2-13 him many happy retirement years; and, be it further
2-14 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-15 him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
