    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
    1-3  to recognize the momentous occasion of the dedication of
    1-4  John B. Alexander High School in Laredo, Texas, on April 30, 1995;
    1-5  and
    1-6        WHEREAS, The groundbreaking ceremony for the new facility
    1-7  was held on April 30, 1993; it is appropriate that the dedication
    1-8  for the new high school occur only two years later; and
    1-9        WHEREAS, Wearing their school colors of blue and gold, the
   1-10  Bulldogs of John B. Alexander High School will develop cherished
   1-11  traditions that will be passed down to future generations of
   1-12  students; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, The new high school is named for a former Laredoan,
   1-14  John Alexander, who was killed during World War II on a battlefield
   1-15  in Normandy, France; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, John Alexander graduated from Laredo High School in
   1-17  1936 and earned a law degree from Cumberland University Law School
   1-18  in Tennessee; and
   1-19        WHEREAS, On a battlefield during the Normandy campaign,
   1-20  John Alexander revealed his desire to return to Laredo to help
   1-21  modernize and improve the city; his tragic death prevented this
   1-22  from being possible; and
   1-23        WHEREAS, John Alexander's mother and sisters have honored
    2-1  his memory by donating family land for the new high school; this
    2-2  charitable donation will assuredly be a wonderful benefit for many
    2-3  young Laredoans for years to come; and
    2-4        WHEREAS, The new high school will celebrate the life of
    2-5  John Alexander and at the same time prove an excellent investment
    2-6  in the education of future generations of citizens of Laredo; now,
    2-7  therefore, be it
    2-8        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-9  74th Legislature, hereby congratulate the City of Laredo and the
   2-10  United Independent School District Board of Trustees on their signal
   2-11  achievement of this illustrious milestone in the history of Laredo;
   2-12  and, be it further
   2-13        RESOLVED, That a copy of Resolution be prepared for the
   2-14  school as a memento of this grand event.
