    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, Texas was the birthplace of public television when
    1-3  KUHT-TV signed on the air in 1953 at the University of Houston;
    1-4  and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Texas public radio and television stations and the
    1-6  Texas Public Broadcasting Association have a long tradition of
    1-7  providing noncommercial educational, informational, and
    1-8  entertainment programs and services to the citizens of the
    1-9  State of Texas; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, Texas is the birthplace of Austin City Limits,
   1-11  the Capitol Report, and Barney, and Big Bird is an honorary
   1-12  Texan; and
   1-13        WHEREAS, Texas public broadcasting reaches 98 percent of
   1-14  the state's population, providing universal access to the state's
   1-15  citizenry regardless of geographical location or economic or
   1-16  social standing; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, The interests of the State of Texas and the mission
   1-18  of public broadcasting converge in delivering programming, data,
   1-19  educational, and community outreach through the application of
   1-20  technology in an integrated distribution system; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, The Texas Public Broadcasting Association has
   1-22  realized significant benefits for the State of Texas by
   1-23  developing a plan for future services through the electronic
    2-1  information superhighway and by contracting or funding specific
    2-2  programs or services that allow the State of Texas to avoid the
    2-3  expensive duplication of services and the utilization of existing
    2-4  infrastructure; now, therefore, be it
    2-5        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-6  74th Legislature, hereby recognize the contributions of Texas
    2-7  public radio and television stations and the Texas Public
    2-8  Broadcasting Association in providing children and adults
    2-9  informative and educational programming; and, be it further
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas encourage
   2-11  all state agencies whenever possible to enter into partnerships
   2-12  with the Texas Public Broadcasting Association to maximize the
   2-13  use of the Texas public broadcasting infrastructure to serve the
   2-14  people of Texas.
