1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION
1-2 WHEREAS, This year Houston honors 20 years of practice by
1-3 the eminent Bayou City physician, Reginald B. Cherry, M.D., and
1-4 the Texas Senate wishes to extend felicitations to this celebrated
1-5 healer; and
1-6 WHEREAS, Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Dr. Cherry majored
1-7 in pre-medicine at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, from 1966 to
1-8 1969; he then spent four years at The University of Texas Medical
1-9 School at San Antonio, and rounded off his post-graduate training
1-10 in Internal Medicine and Radiology at Methodist Hospital in
1-11 Dallas, Texas; and
1-12 WHEREAS, Although at that time, exercise and nutrition were
1-13 just beginning to emerge as an important health field, Dr. Cherry
1-14 saw the importance of this critical area of health care and joined
1-15 Dr. Kenneth Cooper at the Aerobics Center/Cooper Clinic in Dallas,
1-16 practicing preventive medicine; and
1-17 WHEREAS, Dr. Cherry then moved to Houston where he continued
1-18 his specialization in diagnostic and preventive medicine, and from
1-19 1975 to the present, he has been in private practice at his own
1-20 clinic, The R. B. Cherry Clinic for Preventive Medicine, and
1-21 over time, the fuller dimensions of exercise and diet as capable
1-22 of preventing, delaying, or altering the course of illness began
1-23 to emerge, and Dr. Cherry remained in the forefront of research and
2-1 treatment, earning a most distinguished reputation; and
2-2 WHEREAS, A member of the American Medical Association,
2-3 Texas Medical Association, Harris County Medical Society, and
2-4 the American College of Preventive Medicine, Dr. Cherry is also a
2-5 consultant to many corporations and was an assistant professor in
2-6 Clinical Medicine at The University of Texas Medical School at
2-7 Houston; and
2-8 WHEREAS, Over the years, Dr. Cherry has been able to
2-9 continuously extend his mission and message of health through
2-10 numerous articles and speaking engagements, and he has reached out
2-11 through a syndicated weekly television program which communicates
2-12 with millions of Americans each week, bringing directly into their
2-13 homes the expertise which Dr. Cherry has amassed in the vital and
2-14 vibrant realm of human health and happiness; and
2-15 WHEREAS, Dr. Cherry's service to the community is amplified
2-16 by his work as president of Community Educational Television and
2-17 Jacksonville Educators Broadcasting which own and operate five
2-18 educational television stations in Texas and Florida; now,
2-19 therefore, be it
2-20 RESOLVED, That the Senate of Texas, 74th Legislature, hereby
2-21 congratulate and offer best wishes to Dr. Reginald B. Cherry for
2-22 his dedicated service to Houston and to Texas; and, be it further
2-23 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2-24 Dr. Cherry and his family as a memento of his outstanding work
2-25 and 20 years of practice in Houston.
