By: Montford S.R. No. 870 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 In Memory 1-3 of 1-4 Eugene V. Debbs Schoonover 1-5 WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the friends 1-6 and family of Eugene V. Debbs "Don" Schoonover of Odessa in mourning 1-7 this much beloved native son of Texas, who died on March 20, 1995, 1-8 at the age of 82; and 1-9 WHEREAS, This highly respected gentleman was directly 1-10 descended from James Fisher, who belonged to one of the first "300" 1-11 families which in 1842 were settling Stephen F. Austin's colony; his 1-12 great-great uncle, Richardson Perry, fought and died at the Alamo; 1-13 and 1-14 WHEREAS, While nurturing a family and building his business, 1-15 he was nevertheless imbued with the ethic of self-sacrifice and 1-16 public service set forward by his forebears, and found time to 1-17 devote many hours to Alcoholics Anonymous over four decades; he was 1-18 also a member of the First United Methodist Church; and 1-19 WHEREAS, His steadiness of purpose, his devotion to family, 1-20 and his ability to live each day to the fullest will long be 1-21 cherished by those who knew him; now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 1-23 74th Legislature, hereby express sincere condolences to his wife, 2-1 Mrs. Rose Anna Schreiber Schoonover; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 2-3 Mrs. Schoonover as an expression of deepest sympathy from the 2-4 Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so 2-5 in memory of Eugene V.
