    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2                               In Memory
    1-3                                  of
    1-4                       Mary Helen Collier Smith
    1-5        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the citizens
    1-6  of Corpus Christi in mourning the loss of Mary Helen Collier Smith
    1-7  who died April 17, 1995, at the age of 84; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, Born on October 10, 1910, in Dallas, she was
    1-9  married to the late T. Frank Smith, Sr., for 47 years; they were
   1-10  pioneers in radio beginning in Houston in 1930; and
   1-11        WHEREAS, The husband and wife team became associated with
   1-12  Corpus Christi Radio Station KRIS in 1937 and purchased it in 1949;
   1-13  in 1956, they sold the radio station to South Texas Broadcasting
   1-14  Company; and
   1-15        WHEREAS, That same year they started KRIS-TV and it became
   1-16  quite a successful business operation; and
   1-17        WHEREAS, A devoted wife and mother, she supported her husband
   1-18  in his career and established a warm and caring home for their son;
   1-19  and
   1-20        WHEREAS, In all her activities, Mary Helen Collier Smith
   1-21  always gave 100 percent of her care, warmth, and abilities; and
   1-22        WHEREAS, The community will deeply miss this distinguished
   1-23  lady whose wisdom and experience were invaluable to those who had
    2-1  known her throughout the years; now, therefore, be it
    2-2        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
    2-3  74th Legislature, hereby extend sincere condolences to the
    2-4  members of her family:  her son, T. Frank Smith, Jr., and her
    2-5  daughter-in-law, Shirley; and her grandchildren and
    2-6  great-grandchildren; and, be it further
    2-7        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for her
    2-8  family as an expression of deepest sympathy from the Texas Senate,
    2-9  and that when the Senate adjourns this day, it do so in memory of
   2-10  Mary Helen Collier Smith.
