    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas takes great pride in
    1-3  recognizing Ben Crenshaw on the occasion of his spectacular victory
    1-4  at the 1995 Masters tournament; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, Winning the prestigious green jacket is a tremendous
    1-6  feat for any athlete, but this particular tournament held more
    1-7  meaning than most for Ben Crenshaw--his victory in this Masters
    1-8  was a special tribute to his best friend, teacher, and mentor,
    1-9  Harvey Penick, who died just a week before the event; and
   1-10        WHEREAS, In an emotional ending to a gripping tournament,
   1-11  Ben Crenshaw captured his second green jacket with a 14-under
   1-12  par 274; throughout the tournament, he carried with him a 15th
   1-13  club in honor of Harvey Penick, the man who gave him his first
   1-14  golf club at the age of six and who became unarguably one of the
   1-15  most important individuals in his life; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, Aided by the memory of Harvey Penick's famous words,
   1-17  "take dead aim," and by the suggestions of his longtime caddie,
   1-18  Carl Jackson, Ben Crenshaw became the second American in the last
   1-19  eight Masters to capture the championship and the second-oldest
   1-20  player ever to win the tournament; and
   1-21        WHEREAS, He won the 59th Masters with birdie putts on the 16th
   1-22  and 17th holes of the famed Augusta, Georgia, course and held on
   1-23  for a final-round 68 and a one-stroke victory over his close friend
    2-1  Davis Love III; and
    2-2        WHEREAS, After Ben Crenshaw's final putt at the 18th hole,
    2-3  he received a thundering applause from the audience and from people
    2-4  across the nation who joined with him in a dramatic and memorable
    2-5  moment; and
    2-6        WHEREAS, Playing with finesse, discipline, and courage, in
    2-7  a remarkable performance, 43-year-old Ben Crenshaw attained the
    2-8  second-lowest winning score in Masters history; now, therefore,
    2-9  be it
   2-10        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   2-11  74th Legislature, hereby commend Ben Crenshaw, whose victory at
   2-12  the 1995 Masters tournament was a tremendous source of pride for
   2-13  his family, the City of Austin, and the State of Texas; and, be
   2-14  it further
   2-15        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him
   2-16  as an expression of high esteem from the Texas Senate.
