No. 884 1-1 SENATE RESOLUTION 1-2 WHEREAS, Davie Lee Johnson of El Paso has earned the 1-3 distinction of being named Nurse of the Year by District One of 1-4 the Texas Nurses Association in recognition of her outstanding 1-5 contributions to her profession and the people it serves; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Those contributions include being El Paso's first 1-7 and for a long time only Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist 1-8 who has worked tirelessly caring for and being an active advocate 1-9 on behalf of the aged; and 1-10 WHEREAS, This nurse of more than 40 years is widely recognized 1-11 as the author of the celebrated House Bill 90; this legislation 1-12 mandated the inclusion of gerontological curriculum in all 1-13 professional health care and human service programs in Texas; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Ms. Johnson has demonstrated 1-15 her personal commitment to continuing education and professional 1-16 development by earning bachelor and master of science degrees in 1-17 nursing and a master's degree in studies in aging, and her community 1-18 commitment by being an instructor at The University of Texas at 1-19 El Paso's College of Nursing and the El Paso Community College; and 1-20 WHEREAS, It is truly fitting that the Texas Senate recognize 1-21 this dedicated and hardworking woman who clearly exemplifies the 1-22 finest qualities of professional nursing; now, therefore, be it 1-23 RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 2-1 74th Legislature, hereby honor Davie Lee Johnson, R.N., M.S.N., 2-2 Gerontological Clinical Nurse Specialist at El Paso's Thomason 2-3 Hospital, for her noteworthy professional accomplishments in the 2-4 field of nursing; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this Resolution be 2-6 prepared for Ms. Johnson as an expression of the high regard 2-7 of the Texas Senate. 2-8 ______________________________________ 2-9 President of the Senate 2-10 I hereby certify that the above 2-11 Resolution was adopted by the Senate 2-12 on May 2, 1995. 2-13 ______________________________________ 2-14 Secretary of the Senate 2-15 ______________________________________ 2-16 Member, Texas Senate
