    1-1                           SENATE RESOLUTION
    1-2        WHEREAS, The United States of America was drawn into
    1-3  World War II by the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on
    1-4  December 7, 1941; and
    1-5        WHEREAS, America's entry into World War II united the people
    1-6  of the United States in common cause throughout the period of
    1-7  World War II; and
    1-8        WHEREAS, The 16 million Americans who served in the
    1-9  United States Armed Forces during World War II defeated determined
   1-10  enemies in the European and Pacific theaters who were intent upon
   1-11  the domination and enslavement of the world's peoples; and
   1-12        WHEREAS, The sacrifices and contributions of those who served
   1-13  in the United States Armed Forces during World War II, including
   1-14  the more than 400,000 who lost their lives, are deserving of
   1-15  commemoration, honor, and recognition; and
   1-16        WHEREAS, V-J Day, August 14, 1995, marks the 50th anniversary
   1-17  of the total defeat and surrender of Japan and the conclusion of
   1-18  World War II, thus ending the most cataclysmic event of the 20th
   1-19  century, and ushering in the greatest era of peace the world has
   1-20  ever known; now, therefore, be it
   1-21        RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
   1-22  74th Legislature, hereby call upon all citizens of Texas to
   1-23  observe V-J Day, September 2, 1995, as the 50th anniversary of
    2-1  the end of World War II and commend, honor, and recognize the valor
    2-2  and sacrifices of America's World War II veterans for defending and
    2-3  protecting our country, our freedom, and our way of life; and, be
    2-4  it further
    2-5        RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared under
    2-6  the Seal of the Senate as an expression of the Senate's deepest
    2-7  gratitude and highest regard for all those who served so gallantly
    2-8  in the United States Armed Forces during World War II.
